....So little time!! And again, only one hand for typing!! It's been a little too long since our last post but we've been so busy! I think I last wrote nervous about having to supplement Harper's breast milk with formula. We had our three week weigh-in at his pediatrician's office and he had gained nine ounces in the week! He was at 7lbs 8oz at 20 days old! He passed with flying colors, and no formula necessary in this household! He's such a perfect little man...I know, I know, I say that a lot....He just surprises me everyday!
Harper is still sleeping about five hours a night then up for a feeding and diaper change, then usually out again for another four hours! See what I mean about my perfect little man?? We are so blessed!
Today my mom came by before Gus got home from work, and she came bearing gifts. The weather is changing here and we're learning that our baby needs more long sleeves and footies, etc. Needless to say Grandma took care of her boy, but she also got him some toys to hang from his carseat for stimulation on long car rides. We were dangling them in front of him and shaking the rattles, and pulling the cords and he smiled! It was his first intentional one not followed by the expulsion of gas of any kind! I hate to say it, but I missed his first one. My mom and Gus were there. I was upstairs switching the laundry. Mom yelled for me and we got about ten smiles out of him!! By this time my dad had stopped by and he got Harper smiling from ear to ear!! We couldn't get him to cooperate for the camera, but we'll keep trying and post when we do! What a monumental day. He's growing so quickly. I can't believe it.
Harper is four weeks old tomorrow, but a month old on the fifth...Which do we celebrate?? I'm thinking both! We'll get a weight check for the baby book for Harper and a glass of wine for Mommy! We got the okay from his pediatrician to have a glass of red wine with dinner...I can't wait. It's been so long!
We also took Harper on his first road trip this past week. We left on Monday (Harper being a mere 23 days old!) for Clear Lake, California. Gus' family has a lake house that Joanne has been frequenting since she was a child. They have many family memories at the cabin and I had never been! We had a ton of fun and learned that Harper is a great traveler, but does his best at night! It felt great to get a final dose of sunshine before the stormy fall sets in for us, and to make some of our own memories at this incredibly well-loved cabin. We ended our stay buy signing the guestbook that dates back to 1957--full of family and friends. It was a great experience.
I have to say how blessed I feel to have Gus as my partner through this life. I really lucked out with a husband. He's so understanding and helpful. He's even grocery shopping as I type!! He helps with midnight feedings and diaper changes. He is honestly where I get my strength and he loves Harper and I with such passion. I feel beyond blessed, but I'm also honored to be able to raise a family with him as the head of our household...
I'll post more pictures soon, but my one hand is tired of typing and would rather be rubbing my little man's back, so I'm off to do just that!! Keep in touch...we miss you all!
