For those of you who know my husband, you know he's got a thing for sports. It's almost an obsession, or an addiction, but by nature he's got the least addictive personality I know. In all honesty, it is a full blown infatuation. He is the most knowledgeable sports fan I've ever met. He knows stats on his favorites, and even those he couldn't care to watch. Now, he's not just a football fan, or into basketball...He loves track and field, the Olympics, any kind of competition, and he's glued to the screen (yes, since Harper the majority of his sports watching is via television). Most nights he's watching football, march madness, or the Mariners on all sixty-five inches of his beloved HD television AND watching the Blazers on his computer, all the while silently cursing Comcast television network for keeping him from the Blazers in HD. (Out on the beach we can't get Comcast, and apparently they have rights to all blazer games...)
This man of mine is in love with the Portland Trailblazers basketball team. Above any Oregon Ducks Athletics. Beyond any collegiate event....This man's first love is the Blazers. And it always has been. When they rocked the house back in the late 1980s and early 1990s, he spent hours listening to the games on the radio. To this day when he hears Bill Shanley's voice, he remembers the late greats...Kevin Duckworth, Clyde Drexler, Terry Porter, Buck Williams, Jerome Kersey, Cliff Robinson. ::His poor little sisters could tell you story after story about the many nights he spent with his ear up to the radio speaker:: And Gus says to be a fan, you've got to watch them and love them through their years of rebuilding also...or you're not a real fan. Most of you are probably a little more familiar with the recent years spent rebuilding....And as of the last couple years, Gus' favorite Blazers are back in action, with THE Brandon Roy, the unkept promises of Greg Oden, and the new addition of Camby. We can't forget the midwestern power-house, Joel Pryzbilla...Which leads me back to the title of this post....
Yesterday, my mom, Harper, and I were in Babies R Us. I absolutely detest that place, but I had a store credit, an overly large babe for his age, and a right arm that is incredibly tired from lugging my bundle of smiles around in his infant carrier. We were in search of a convertible car seat that would last for my big boy. Gus opted out of the adventure and spent time with friends in the city while we searched. Meanwhile, as Harper tested his cute little cloth diapered booty in each seat, and we texted dad for safety reviews, also searching for carseats was Joel Pryzbilla. Gus would've possibly wet his pants. I saw him, seven feet tall, dressed in Adidas warm-ups and walking with a limp (He's out for the season with a knee injury. Re-injured TWICE, the second time slipping in the shower...Gus knows ALL!), and I knew it had to be him. Apparently he's expecting a baby. Gus pushed me to get a picture with him and Harper, but I didn't have it in me. Harper was fussy by that time, and Joel seemed about as happy to be in Babies R Us as we did. Joel walked past Harper and I, and he was probably three feet from us. As he passed, Harper stared up and up and up at him, and wouldn't take his eyes off! I said, "He's tall, isn't he?" Harper responded to me by looking at me with a two-toothed grin. Too cute! Oh and by the way, Joel Pryzbilla has the same taste in infant car seats as we do!
Moral of the story...Gus should never miss out on a baby-related errand again...Don't you think??!
