Interest in Food!

Last night while I was feeding Harper his dinner, I had some avocado, cantaloupe, and diced blueberry pieces out on his tray.  Previously, he's never put any sort of food into his mouth (only EVERYTHING else!) so I was encouraging the finger foods with a little pureed broccoli and asparagus as well.  I had some whole blueberries that I was munching on too.  I would take the blueberry and say, "Harper, watch Momma" and toss the blueberry into my mouth.  He would grab as many pieces of food from his tray and toss them into his seat beside his leg!  ::He's really really into cause and effect these days::  He enjoys watching them fall!  I tossed a few more berries into my mouth repeating "watch Momma", and he did it!  Finally!  It was so great to see him learn just like that.  Every single day he seems to do a little something new, and I'm so lucky to be able to watch him grow...

For those interested in a food update, Harper is taking to foods pretty well now.  He still probably only eats an ounce of fruit, and probably half an ounce of veggies, and maybe a teaspoon of cereal each day, but I offer a plethora of flavors twice a day and feed him until he doesn't want any more.  I think technically that would make my eight month old incredibly undernourished, but he is still nursing just as often as he was before we started solids ten weeks ago.  He's still gaining weight and is happy so I think we're okay.  Actually, I'm happy with it considering he resisted them for so long!  Hopefully his pediatrician agrees at his appointment in a couple of weeks??!

Foods that Harper has tried to date:

  • Avocado
  • Broccoli
  • Asparagus
  • Carrots
  • Green Beans
  • Zucchini
  • Apples
  • Pears
  • Mango
  • Blueberries
  • Cantaloupe
  • Peaches
  • Yams
  • Squash
  • Banana
Up next before his nine month appointment we have Spinach too!

My mom reports that last night while her and my dad were watching Harper (Gus and I were at the gym!), he tried to put his shoe on his foot!  I can't imagine the sight, and it makes me resent my workout a little because I would LOVE to see something like that!  Maybe I'll catch it next time?!
