...In the Molan home. Harper has learned how to push Scout's buttons!! His all time favorite toy is the Leap Frog Puppy named Scout. He's pretty well known around the six to thirty-six month age group...His name is Scout, and he sings and plays games with Harper. He knows Harper's name, his favorite color (black-programmed before Harper babe could see more than contrast; these days it's red), his favorite animal (dogs-still rings true!), and his favorite food (tofu-can you believe milk, or better known as "milkies" in our household wasn't an option, but tofu was??!) Anyway, all four of his paws are little buttons and they sing songs, play games, turn him off, or play "bedtime music" (this happens to fire up our little man, but so do mobiles and sleep sheep!) and the rest of him is cuddly and plush like any other stuffed animal. He is green and white and has a little blue light around his "collar" that flashes with each tune. Harper lives for this toy... and today he was found pushing the buttons himself!! We were playing while I was attempting to ingest a little salad Gus had made for dinner (I really am that lucky!!), and I noticed that I hadn't been making Scout sing, but Harper did!! We couldn't be more proud!
Honestly, this boy is doing something new every single day. He picks his toys out of his toy box himself, he is mastering pointing (real polite, I know), he pulls himself up to standing any time he can (like right now on the edge of his toy box...), and he even pulls himself onto his hands and knees (although he doesn't seem like he's the crawling type). It's so incredible. During swimming this last week he floated all by his self for all of three or four seconds with his water wings on and I felt as if he was graduating from college.
This motherhood job sure is bittersweet. I grow more prideful each and every day, with every new milestone. Then on days like yesterday, when we pulled out the home videos and re-lived his first weeks, I don't know whether to smile or cry. Smile at how smart he is and how he is so capable...Or cry because he'll never be that helpless or small again. And much to my husband's dismay, I settled for both.
